Marathon man makes 1600 for HSP!

Kevin Flower of Safe, keen fundraiser and runner, recently ran the London Marathon raising £1600. Kevin raised awareness and funds in support of HSP Group UK, following the diagnosis of a close friend’s daughter with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP).

HSP covers a range of rare genetic disorders and the charity aims to encourage and support members and to raise vital research funds.

Kevin points out that ‘Connie’s family does not know the speed in which she will degenerate, but it is highly likely that she will require operations, long term medication and the use of a wheel chair as she gets older.’ He adds “it is vital we raise awareness and funds for this terrible disease to support her and other sufferers.”

Kevin finished the marathon, his ninth to date, in an impressive time of 3 hours and 29 minutes, and has currently raised £1600 for HSP Group UK.  Kevin’s just giving page is still open for donations at https://www.justgiving.com/Kevin-Flower.

Apart from crossing the finishing line, Kevin’s other highlights were ‘the fantastic crowds and seeing my friends and family three times around the course’. He was also keen to express his gratitude to everyone who sponsored him, adding that ‘a small charity like HSP will really benefit from such generous donations.’

With a record number of over 38,000 running this challenging 26.2 mile course, the London Marathon, in its 35 year, is one of the largest running events in the UK. Around £50 million raised this year, takes the total to over £750 million collected for charity since it began in 1981.
