Dickie Bow runs 42km for disabled Kidz

Dickie Bow runs 42km for disabled Kidz

July 2012

Senior software engineer, Richard Bowen from Safe, is hoping to raise £1000 to help disabled children, by raising money for Whizz-Kidz in the Berlin marathon.

Richard is currently training hard to run the Berlin marathon in September this year. The first Berlin marathon was held in 1974 and the event this year will be the 39th marathon of this kind. This run takes in a tour around the city, which in total makes the marathon a gruelling 42 kilometres for those taking part. It starts and finishes near the Brandenburg Gate.

Whizz-Kidz is Richard’s chosen charity, who aim to improve the lives of disabled children by providing them with specialist equipment for their condition, be it customised wheelchairs or tricycles. By working on national campaigns, Whizz-Kidz also aim to increase awareness of mobility issues. The charity also offer support to disabled children and young people and their families by giving free help and advice.

Richard is also running a fundraising raffle for the charity, for which his employer Safe Computing has donated a prize. ‘I’m hoping to raise £1,000 for this worthy cause’ Richard says, and looking at his just giving page he is on track to do so. He’s only just started collecting sponsorship and has already raised around £150.
